Four suspects of Examination Malpractice remanded to Mpigi Prison
Four suspects of Examination Malpractice were on Thursday 19th January remanded to Mpigi Prison till February 1, 2023. The suspects include Mukasa Desire, Bbuye Francis, Philemon, and Ssebuuma Frank.
It is alleged that between 8th and 9th of November 2022, the suspects were in possession of electrical examination material/ information and were equally involved in electrical transmission of the same.
According to the Uganda National Examinations board, the four were charged with aiding and abetting examination malpractice, contrary to Section 36 of the UNEB Act 2021. They are also charged with another account of examination material/ information contrary to section 25 of the UNEB Act.
They were remanded by Grade 1 Senior Magistrate, Fatuma Nabirye
in 2022, the Police investigated allegations of malpractice during the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations, which ended on December 9, 2022. The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) said 10 cases of malpractice were handed over to the Police for investigations.

Subsection 25 (2) of the Uneb Act, 2021 criminalizes willful or negligent assistance or causing any candidate to obtain examination papers. If convicted, the perpetrator is liable to a fine not exceeding 2,000 currency points (Shs40m) or an imprisonment term not exceeding 10 years or both.
Similarly, the penalty for cheating exams was also raised from Shs50,000 or two years in prison upon conviction to a maximum fine of Shs10m or five years in jail or both, depending on the gravity of the crime committed.
