Government of Uganda has commissioned a regional industrial hub in Masaka city which will offer free vocational trainings to the youth in greater Masaka sub region.
The industrial hub located at Ndegeya Village in Bugabira Parish in Masaka city, will train youths aged 18 to 35, from the nine districts that make up the Masaka sub region and Masaka city. Each district will enroll 24 students, with four students in each subject.
The students will be trained in 7 courses for a period of 5 months. They will be trained in various vocational courses which include Tailoring, hairdressing, bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, craftsmanship, Metal Fabrication, food processing, bakery and value addition to improve the quality of various products.
The institute, which brings the total number of 19 industrial hubs in Uganda will start training residential youths on 15th of February 2023. All students will be trained for a period of 5 months. Upon completing the training the trainees will obtain Level One Certificate of Uganda Vocational Qualifications, under the Directorate of Industrial Training, Ministry of Education and Sports.
Masaka industrial hub was officially commissioned by the State House comptroller Ms. Jane Barekye on Thursday, 2nd February, in company of greater Masaka district leaders, technical staffs and security agencies.
While commissioning the hub, Ms. Jane Barekye, said the government by establishing such institutions, wants to ensure that it eliminates unemployment among the youth and change the economic statutes of people who never had a chance to attain formal education.
She however, warned the leaders tasked to vet students joining the industrial hub not to be tempted to ask for bribes and never to consider political ideologies because they will be arrested. She analyzed the importance of this government scheme in Masaka sub region given the fact that it will equip learners with permanent knowledge at a free cost, and asked residents to embrace it as one of the government moves to eradicate poverty.
The Resident City Commissioner for Masaka Mr. Ronald Katende Kinene advised fellow leaders in Masaka sub region to do what is required from them for the benefit of the region.
Other leaders from greater Masaka districts that will benefit from this government scheme including the Resident District commissioner for Bukomansimbi, Ms. Jane Francis Kagayi and Kalangala RDC Ms. Juliet Najjuma commended this initiative.
Engineer Raymond Kamugisha, Akankwasa the director Presidential Projects/ Industrial Hubs, explained that the hubs are meant to help the needy youth, adding that the training is free of charge. He warned people willing to sabotage this government scheme and tasked politicians forging academic papers to join such institutions to acquire approved academic documents.
