LIFE STORY: Towards a sprawling spring, close to a garden at the entrance of Lukaya, the major town in Kalungu district is Comprehensive High School. With a green ambience, cagy buildings and a serene environment is where Mr. Salim Kisekka chose to establish a school with over 95% sponsored students.
Salim Kisekka a businessman in Bukomansimbi says his motivation to support vulnerable children is based on his life background where he started as a houseboy at a certain home in Bunamwaya, a Kampala suburb where he was picked by a Good Samaritan sister who took him to Gogonya convent regardless of his religious affiliation.
“The Samaritan sister later took me at Kigando SSS where i met now the Late Father Bill and the Emeritus Bishop of Masaka Dr. John Baptist Kaggwa who identified me from over 5000 students and chose to provide me more academic support.” He says
At Kigando, Salim says it’s where he met President Museveni who later offered him scholarships to Far East countries.
It is from this background that Kisekka chose to establish SK charity Foundation which currently supports over 1000 vulnerable children with full scholarships and necessary scholastic materials at all levels.
Salim says he uses billions of his annual dividends on vulnerable children because he has no special funders to facilitate the works of his organisation as it’s the case with other NGOs.
At least 2000 students have so far benefited from the SK bursary scheme which seeks to support vulnerable children in Central Uganda. SK Charity Foundation for many years has been supporting children to attain holistic education in the Districts of Bukomansimbi, Ssembabule, Masaka, Kalungu, Kampala, Wakiso among others.
Some of the Schools where SK Charity Foundation enrolled vulnerable children to attain education include; Comprehensive high school – Lukaya, Kiti Muslim SS Kalungu , St Victors Kitaasa Secondary School – Bukomansimbi , Bukomansimbi SSS, Giant SS Kagologolo Bukomansimbi , Mbulire SSS Bukomansimbi , St Joseph SS Butenga (Bukomansimbi), Bright Angels Primary School Mbale Kinoni, Bukomansimbi , Watoto Nursery and Primary School – Bukomansimbi , Step by Step Primary School – Bukomansimbi, among others.
Universities include, Kampala International University, Muteesa 1Royal University, the International University of East Africa and other Diploma awarding institutions.
Last week, during his visit at Kiti Moslem SSS in Kalungu, Mr. Salim Kisekka also offered full university scholarships to the 7 students that sat the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education at the school in 2022 and donated a spring well to the same school to provide clean water to the students.
Regardless of his status, Kisekka shares the posho and beans whenever he visits his students who refer to him as Dad, since he plays all the parental roles to all the mentioned thousands of students.
Some of the parents of such vulnerable children under SK charity Foundation are also supported by the same person in Savings and Credit schemes under Bukomansimbi Mixed farmers SACCO to ensure that they are also empowered economically.
His investment in the radio/Media business under Bukomansimbi media Company Ltd moves along in further sensitizing the local population within the area to engage in not only income generating activities, but also inform them about their basic and social needs to uplift the society holistically.
Mr. Salim Kisekka, says his dream is to see a changed society where citizens can support themselves after attaining the necessary knowledge and skills in schools and Tertiary institutions of higher learning.
