CHURCH OF UGANDA: The House of Bishops sitting in Muhabura Diocese (Kisoro) has today April 3rd 2023, elected Rev. Canon Godfrey Kasana as the 4th Bishop of Luweero Diocese and Rev. Barnabas Tibaijuka as the 1st Bishop of West Rwenzori Diocese.
Rev. Canon Godfrey Kasana will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 16th July 2023 at St. Mark’s Cathedral, Luweero
West Rwenzori Diocese will be officially launched and Rev. Barnabas Tibaijuka will be consecrated and enthroned as the 1st Bishop on 27th August 2023 in Bundibugyo.
Canon Kasana was born on 11th January 1971 in Sekamuli, Wabinyinja, Bamunanika Sub-country, and was born again on 17th September 1996.
Canon Kasana earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Uganda Christianity University in 2009 and is currently working on a Master of Arts in Development Studies from Ndejje University. He was ordained a deacon in 2009 and made a Canon of St. Mark’s Cathedral, Luweero, in 2020. He has traveled extensively, been exposed to ministry in the UK, Europe, India, and South Africa, and coordinated a number of international partnerships in Luweero Diocese.
Canon Kasana began his ministry as a Lay Reader. After he was ordained, he has served in a variety of different pastoral and administrative positions, including Diocesan Youth Secretary, Parish Priest, Archdeacon, and Diocesan Director of Household and Community Transformation.
Canon Kasana is married to Harriet Kasana and God has blessed them with seven children.
Rev. Barnabas was born on 8th May 1975 in Butungama, Bundibugyo District. He was born again on 5th April 1994 during an open air crusade led by the Bwamba Great Missioners. Being the son of an Anglican priest, he had been leading a double life – humble, obedient, and God-fearing son at home, and a rebellious, night-club loving youth while at school.
Rev. Barnabas earned a Master’s degree from Mountains of the Moon University, Fort Portal, in 2016, and a Bachelor of Divinity from Uganda Christian University, Mukono, in 2011. He was ordained a deacon in 2010 and a priest in 2011.
Rev. Barnabas has served both as a classroom teacher and Head Teacher in a number of Primary Schools. He started church ministry as a Catechist. After his ordination he served in the Diocese of Ruwenzori Diocesan office as the Diocesan Youth Worker, and as the Vicar of several parishes.
He has also worked on translating the Bible into Lubwisi and taught at Bishop Balya College. He took early retirement from civil service and is currently a member of the Diocesan Synod and Vice Chairperson for the Diocese of Ruwenzori House of Clergy.
Rev. Barnabas is married to Alice Mbambu Tibaijuka. Together they have raised two girls who are both born again and currently university students.
