SOCIAL MEDIA: The Kampala Pothole Exihibition campaign trending on Twitter has exposed the rotten roads in Uganda’s Capital city.
The campaign dubbed Kampala Pothole Exhibition has since Monday morning, April 17th 2023 been trending on Twitter with over ten thousand (10,000) tweets. It was started by the Popular Cartoonist Jimmy Spire Ssentongo in protest of the bad state of roads in Kampala.
The protest is being held on the hashtag #KampalaPotholeExhibition
The Exhibition has exposed the impeccable roads with very large potholes like Sir Apolo Kaggwa Road, Salaama road heading to Munyonyo, the Naguru Road, Balintuma Road, Kasubi-Namungona Road, Masiro road, Roads in the industrial area, LDC road, among others
Spire who even tagged the President in one of his tweets exposed an ambulance which was struggling to reach Kiruddu Hospital.
“Your excellency, this ambulance is struggling to reach Kiruddu Hospital through something like a road (a cry over the years). Potholes all over Kampala are a national embarrassment and injustice. Kindly follow the ongoing #KampalaPotholeExhibition for more,” Spire tweeted.
Spire adds that KCCA requests for a lot of money for road maintenance and repairs every financial year but can’t even fix them
Ugandans have since Monday morning tagged all the government authorities connected to road works including the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Kampala Capital City Authority, Uganda National Roads Authority, KCCA Directors and the Lord Mayor
“Lets accept that the same way NRM failed to fight poverty is the same way they have failed with city potholes #KampalaPotholeExhibition,” Jeje Odea tweeted.
“2 full ministers ,KCCA and 10 Mps responsible for our capital city but all have failed us. Look at the state of Kampala roads. #KampalaPotholeExhibition,” Nze Kizito tweeted
However, in a response tweeted by the Daily Monitor, the KCCA Executive Director Ms. Doroth Kisaka Said, “People criticising KCCA about not doing roads, should know that roads are made with money. Without money, KCCA can’t do roads…”
