MASAKA DIOCESE: The Roman Catholic Diocese of Masaka under her development agency of Caritas Maddo in collaboration with St. Vincent Palloti home for the disabled Kitovu has offered free medical services to over 400 children in Masaka
The Diocese also donated charity to disabled children with was collected by good samaritan Catholics in Masaka.
The ceremony was blessed by the Bishop of Masaka Diocese and President of Caritas Uganda Rt. Rev. Severus Jjumba who emphasized that one of the main pillars of the Catholic church is to offer love to the people of God on which Caritas International was founded.
Bishop Jjumba also added that the Catholic church and the community still has a demand to help disabled children instead of abandoning them
“During Palm Sunday, Christians offered what they had and we chose to deliver it to disabled children, we urge Christians and good Samaritans to offer what they have towards this cause.” Bishop Jumba said.
The Deputy Director of Caritas Maddo Masaka Rev. Fr. Peter Paul Ssemakula said they have always cared for disabled children in Masaka Diocese of which a good number of them have recovered from various illnesses.
Sister Mary Kevin Nakyanzi of the Good Samaritan Sisters who heads the St. Vincent Palloti home of the disabled Kitovu urged parents to pay special attention to disabled children instead of abandoning them.
Dr. Namususwa Rona Mary from the Association of religious leaders under the Catholic care for children in Uganda, said that most of the children with disabilities were found to be fed with bad food diet and urged parents to improve their feeding.
The medical camp started at Bikira Parish and Kitaasa Parish were over 200 children with disabilities were offered with free medication.
St. Vincent Palloti home for the disabled Kitovu was blessed and officially opened in 2017 by the Late Bishop of Masaka Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa and Rev. Fr. Kalyango.
