MASAKA DIOCESE: Hundreds of Roman Catholic Christians on Sunday October 8th 2023, thronged Sts. Alex and Henry Kirowooza Parish in Masaka Diocese to celebrate the Parish’s 4th Anniversary.
The 4th Anniversary Mass was celebrated by Msgr. George William Lubega who commended the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Vincent F. Lusembo Opio and Christians for building and beautifying Kirowooza Parish and making it the most beautiful Parish in Masaka Diocese
Rev. Fr. Vincent F. Lusembo Opio, the Kirowooza Parish Priest commended the former Pookino Alex Ssebowa who donated land where the Parish is situated and other stakeholders like Mr. SSewaya, Mr. Kabonge, Ms. Rosette Nabisere, the Late Fr. Joseph Lukwago, Mr. John Mukalazi Kamya of Maryland USA, Rev. Fr. Anthony Kakumba, Rev. Fr. Katabaazi and others for their efforts during the establishment and construction of this Parish
“Gratitude goes to Mr. John Mukalazi Kamya for his great contribution towards the completion of the new parish church, the presbytery and the parish gardens.” he said
Formerly a sub-parish of Villa Maria, Kirowooza was raised to a parish status on December 8, 2019 during the Jubilee year of the 150 years of the existence of the White Fathers (Missionaries of Africa) in Uganda at Villa Maria by Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba. It therefore acquired a privilege of being the first parish opened up in his apostolate.
Kirowooza is one of the 64 parishes in Masaka Diocese. It was first established as a Eucharistic Centre by Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba on December 16, 2019. It was late alone raised to a parish status in the following year by the same Bishop on the occasion of the 150 anniversary of the existence of the Missionaries of Africa in Uganda at Villa Maria.
Mr. Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira of Lubowa Ssebina Foundation who was one of the key guests during the cerebration asked christians to jointly contribute to the construction of the Parish Administration block and guest house which is projected to cost over 400 million shillings
Kirowooza is located on the outskirts of Masaka City, with a semi-urban population.
The Parish is under the patronage of two saints; St Alex in respect and acknowledgment of the Late Alex Ssebbowa and St. Henry in acknowledgment of the late Bishop Henry Stenseera.
