Bukomansimbi District Speaker Leberenga Peter was on Thursday March 30th 2023 arrested by Police for exchanging blows with the district Vice Chairperson Mubarak Ssebuufu Junior over misunderstandings.
This website has learnt that the two members of the National Unity Platform (NUP) boxed each other on Wednesday after the district council meeting where the two disagreed on certain issues.
According to sources, the speaker and the vice chairperson’s disagreements came as a result of a certain issue which the executive had proposed to present before the district council. The two political leaders lost their tempers and exchanged heavy blows.
The vice chairperson who was severely beaten to an extent of losing some teeth reported the case to Bukomansimbi police station which later summoned the speaker to record a statement about the matter. Luberenga was later detained by police.
Eng. Juma Luwalagga, one of the former Parliamentary aspirants in Bukomansimbi District said he was disappointed with the misconduct of the two leaders and called for an immediate action for the district to retain its public dignity.
“Bukomansimbi should be taken back to the hands capable leaders, why should we accept to be led by such shameful people who can’t even control their tempers? He asked
Ms. Viola Baleke one of the opinion leaders in Bukomansimbi said the district vice chairperson and the speaker should resign for their misconduct before the public.
Ms. Zulaikah Nalukenge the Bukomansimbi district NUP registrar said they are going to find means of advocating for the immediate release of the jailed speaker and asked party members and leaders to always find better ways of handling disagreements other than fighting.
Recently, the Wakiso District Chairperson Dr. Matia Lwanga Bwanika went to Bukomansimbi and mentored the district leaders who seem to have constant personal disagreements which have failed the smooth running of the district administrative work.
Bukomansimbi District became so popular during the 10 year tenure of its first chairperson Hajji Muhammad Kateregga the current Justice Forum National Secretary, to an extent of ranking as one of the best performing local governments in Masaka sub region and the country. Hajji Kateregga later handed over the Mantle to NUP’s Nyenje Fred in 2021.
Two City councilors suspended for six months, accused of misconduct.
Meanwhile, Mbale city speaker Mariam Nambuya on 29ᵗʰ/03/2023 suspended two of her councilors for six months on allegations of misconduct during the council meeting.
Two councilors are Sam Mafabi representing Mbale Northern city division East and Isaac Woniala, the Mbale Industrial City West Councilor.
Its reportedly alleged that councilor Sam stormed out of the meeting in protest and carried away with the Mace which forced the town clerk to call police to arrest them but found when they had disappeared
