As students across the country are in the midst of starting their first term, students in Bukomansimbi district have been provided with scholastic materials to help them conduct their studies.
The materials which included dozens of exercise books, geometry sets, pens, pencils among others were donated by Bash Foundation, an NGO operating in the Masaka sub region district.
While handing over the scholastic materials to learners, the Executive Director of Bash Foundation Mr. Bashir Ssemakula said most of the parents were affected by the lockdown and still have not recovered financially.
Mr. Bashir Ssemakula, however, urged the government to consider increasing the salaries of primary teachers so that they can stick to their jobs
The Head teacher Buwenda Primary School, Mr. Baluku Lawrence said rural schools are faced with challenges were some students go to school without any school requirement and sometimes teachers arrange to provide for them.
The parents and students commended Mr. Bashir Ssemakula and Bash Foundation for their contribution towards promoting education for children from vulnerable families.
According to the 2022 PLE results, Bukomansimbi District obtained 495 first grades and 1,791 second grades out of 3,861 candidates that sat for the Primary Leaving Examinations.
According to the 2023 academic calendar, first term is will begin on Monday February 6 (tomorrow) 2023, running for 89 days and ending on May 5. Learners will then go for a 23-day holiday and return for a second term on May 29 which will run up to August 25.
