Buganda Kingdom’s main broadcaster Central Broadcasting Service (CBS FM) on Wednesday, March 8th 2023, excited listeners with unique broadcasts to mark the international women’s day.
The Masengere based Radio with two frequencies 88.8 and 89.2fm made listeners mesmerized when it hosted famous women in the country to host all its programs from morning till midnight.
On 88.8 CBS fm (ey’obujajja), listeners were excited to listen to the former UPDF spokesperson Brig. Flavia Byekwaso and Popular Academician Hon. Margaret Nantongo Zziwa the former EALA Speaker anchoring the Prime news bulletin at 9:00am.
Other popular women who presented various programs on cbs fm were the KCCA Executive Director Ms. Doroth Kisaka and Hon. Brenda Nabukenya the Woman MP Luweero District who anchored the 12:00 noon news bulletin, Hon. Hope Grannier Nakazibwe Woman MP Mubende anchored the 7:00am bulletin, Masaka City Mayor Florence Namayanja presented the 8:00am Press review and Hon Safia Nalule chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission anchored news at 6:00am.
On 89.2 CBS Fm (Emmanduso), Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi and Dr. Edith Nakku Jjoloba anchored the 9:00am prime news bulletin with Hon. Hope Grannia Nakazibwe Woman MP Mubende, Ms. Sarah Langa Siu the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary of Uganda anchored the English bulletin at 11:00am, Ann Marie Nattabi and Ms. Eugenia Nassolo anchored the (pm prime news). and Hon. Flavia Nabagambe Kalule Woman MP Kassanda anchored the 7:00am bulletin.
Hon. Nakimuli Hellen the Kalangala District Woman MP anchored the 7:00pm bulletin, Ms. Irene Nakasiita the PRO Red cross and Owek. Mariam Mayanja Nkalubo the Buganda Kingdom Minister of Lands and Environment anchored the 1:00pm bulletin, Ms. Eugenia Nassolo anchored the 9:00pm prime news bulletin, Doreen Nyanjura Deputy Lord Mayor and Ms. Christine Lakot Mujuni anchored the 3pm English bulletin, Ms. Mirriam Chisha Chimba – Communications Officer Uganda Girl Guides Association from Zambia and Dr. Joyce Nansamba Kikambi – Lecturer Makerere University school of Psychology anchored the 11am news,among others.
Other day’s programs on both Stations were presented by popular female performing Arts and Women of substance in Uganda from the civil society, political leaders and Buganda Kingdom staff.
On the long list were Musician Irene Namatovu and Aidah Mugo who presented the program Mukeeze on 89.2, Flavia Mawagi and Immy Candace on Kalasa Mayanzi, Florence Nampijja , Anna Talia Oze ne Nina Roz on Township tunes and Dianah Nabatanzi, Azawi and Laika Music on evening cruz ,Program KKiriza oba gaana was presented by Hon Joyce Bagala and Hon Aisha Kabanda.
Other Women who presented programs and anchored news on the biggest radio station in the central region were Dr. Mary Goreth Nakabugo, chairperson Kyambogo and Muteesa 1 Royal University council, Joanita Nabagesera Kirabo presented Gakuwebwa Munno on 88.8, Dr Margret Nabaggala Ntambaazi, Hon Nalongo Namazzi Olivie, Agnes Kirabo, and Ms. Nakibuuka Noor Musisi.
Program Londoola Ensonga was presented by Ms. Pamela Watuwa, Program Sanyuka Da Heartbeat was presented by Catherine Kusasira Sserugga, Program Savanna 256 was presented by Omumbejja Nakalema, Iam Maureen Nantume and Mary Bata, Ms. Florence Nangendo presented the world report, Bwakedde Mpulira, was presented by Diana Nakubulwa, Sandrah Namugerwa and Peace Diane and Agakutte omubabiro was presented by Hon. Teddy Nambooze Woman MP Mpigi district on 88.8fm.
It was a very interesting day on the Kingdom broadcaster because even all the music play lists were for female artists.
Women thanked the Kabaka for opening doors for women in the Kingdom to an extent of availing them a chance to present live Radio programs on CBS Radio.
The Kingdom Television BBS Telefayina also applied the same innovation because many of the above mentioned women just crossed from CBS fm to BBS TV to present a number of its programs on Women’s day.
Other Radio Stations and Televisions in the country all advocated for women rights in their broadcasts and presentations with a number of programs hosted by female presenters and guests
International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It calls for a gender equal world, a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination, a world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive, a world where difference is valued and celebrated.
On this day, the world also celebrates women’s achievements, Raise awareness about discrimination and how to take action to drive gender parity. Collective action and shared ownership for driving gender parity is what makes International Women’s Day impactful.
The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights to truly make a positive difference for women.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 was, ‘DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’ which recognizes and celebrates the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education. In Uganda, the National cerebration was hosted in Kiruhura District.
