PALM SUNDAY: Christians across the World have on Sunday 2nd April 2023 thronged Places of Worship to celebrate the Palm Sunday in preparation of the Passion death and Resurrection of Christ.
Unlike other usual Sundays, Churches and Cathedrals across the country have been filled to full capacity by believers shaking Palm leaves in celebration for Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
In Uganda, religious leaders and political heads have called upon Christians to ensure peace and unity.
The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet among said, ” On this sacred day as we commemorate the triumphant entry of our Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, may we find more strength, peace, and hope in forgiving one another as we follow in the footsteps of our savior Jesus Christ.”
Hon. Eng. Richard Sebamala, the Bukoto Central member of Parliament said, “Today, we remember that the Savior is close, but the traitors are always with us. Many cannot stand with us during the war but will celebrate the victory. The streets will be filled with joy on that day. Be it known that it is fast approaching.”
Palm Sunday is a Christian holiday that occurs on the Sunday before Easter. This celebration commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, mentioned in each of the four Gospels. Jesus entered the city knowing He would be tried and crucified and welcomed His fate to rise from the grave and save us from sin! Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, the remembrance of Jesus’ last days.
In many Catholic churches, Palm Sunday is observed with the blessing and sharing of palm branches symbolizing the branches placed in front of Christ as he entered Jerusalem.
Easter will be marked next Sunday on April 9th, 2023.
