OPINION: Homosexuality is now a hot topic allover the social and mainstream media in Uganda where the public is demanding for a firm stand from all political, Religious, Technical and Opinion leaders about the vice eating up societies.
However, the Bukoto Central Legislator and the Acting Democratic Party President Eng. Hon. Richard Sebamala says that whoever tries to get reasons to justify that Homosexuality is a human right, is demoralizing the society.
“To all those who try to get reasons to justify that Homosexuality is a human right, I want to assure you that it is actually a ‘human wrong’, immoral and an unacceptable behaviour in our culture and traditions.” Eng. Sebamala said.
Hon. Sebamala therefore, caution parents to be very vigilant and responsible with your children.
“It starts with us, then teachers who spend most of the time with our children. I hope that this government will hear our point and make sense out of it for the good of Ugandans.” he adds.
He wonders how persons of the same gender would start a love affair, and wonders why such evil acts which are against the Natural laws would even need to be debated yet it is universally understood that homosexuality is a human wrong.
On Thursday March, 9th 2023, the Bugiri Municipality member of Parliament Hon. Asuman Basalirwa tabled the Anti-Homosexuality Bill to Parliament for first reading and the Speaker Rt. Hon. Anitah Among referred the Bill to the Committee of legal and Parliamentary Affairs and directed to ensure there is sufficient public hearing of the bill.
The Speaker emphasized that every MP will be required to announce his/her stand before the house when time comes to vote for a law that will act against the vice which she said is a threat to society.
The Bill seeks to prohibit any form of sexual relations between persons of the same sex, prohibit and penalize homosexual behavior and related practices, prohibit the promotion of homosexuality and protect and provide assistance and payment of compensation to victims of homosexuality.
The object of the Bill is to establish a comprehensive and enhanced legislation to protect the traditional family by strengthening the nation’s capacity to deal with emerging internal and external threats to the traditional, heterosexual family. This legislation further recognizes the fact that same sex attraction is not an innate and immutable characteristic.
The Bill also protects the cherished culture of the people of Uganda, legal, religious, and traditional family values of Ugandans against the acts of sexual rights activists seeking to impose their values of sexual promiscuity on the people of Uganda and protects children and youth who are made vulnerable to sexual abuse through homosexuality and related acts.
