MASAKA: The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has inaugurated Greater Masaka Presidential Industrial Hub under the initiative of H.E Kaguta Museveni to skill the youth in the country majorly to curb the challenge of unemployment as well as to encourage the young generation to be job creators, not job seekers
During the inauguration at Ndegeya Masaka on Wednesday May 7th 2023, the Premier Mayiga commended the President and the government of Uganda for the implementation of the Presidential Skilling program targeting the youth. He expressed that this initiative represents a positive stride towards combating unemployment in Uganda.
“I’m very appreciative of this presidential initiative aimed at skilling the youth. The rationale for anyone is to get work and you can only learn when still young. So, I urge the youth to get trained so that you may have meaningful lives when you’re adults,” Owek. Mayiga said
Ms. Jane Balekye the State House Comptroller, said each of the 19 industrial hubs across the country enrolls 240 students every intake and employs 35 staff members to skill the youth, and minimizing high unemployment levels by equipping them with various hands-on skills.
Ms. Balekye commended the Katikkiro of Buganda for transforming the Kingdom of Buganda and supporting various government projects which are geared towards minimizing the levels of unemployment and applauded the Kingdom relations with the Central government. She asked the Premier to also visit other government projects in Kampala which are centered on skilling street children.
The Director of Industrial Hubs & Presidential Projects in State House Eng. Raymond Kamugisha said all industrial hubs were initiated by the President to minimize high unemployment levels among the youth by equipping them with various hands-on skills
Katikkiro Mayiga was accompanied by the Buddu county chief Pookino Jude Muleke, the State House Comptroller Ms.Jane Barekye, the Director of Industrial Hubs & Presidential Projects in State House Eng. Raymond Kamugisha, Minister Anifa Kawooya, Former Vice President Rt. Hon. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi and several leaders from greater Masaka districts.
The Greater Masaka Industrial Hub is aimed at training and equipping youths from Masaka, Sembabule, Lwengo, Bukomansimbi, Kalungu, Lyantonde, Kalangala, Masaka City, Kyotera & Rakai, in different vocational disciplines.
Greater Masaka Industrial Zonal Hub started operations in February 2023. It offers free vocational training in welding & metal fabrication, baking, tailoring, carpentry, hairdressing, brick laying, stone cutting, plumbing electronics, farm management among others. The institute is among the 19 industrial hubs in Uganda
The industrial hub located at Ndegeya Village in Bugabira Parish in Masaka city, trains youths aged 18 to 35, from the nine districts that make up the Masaka sub region and Masaka city. Each district enrolls 24 students, with four students in each subject. students are trained in courses for a period of 5 months.
