MASAKA: The Korea Foundation for International Healthcare ( KOFIH) has donated 30 motorcycles, 200 bycycles and 484 kits to Village Health Teams (VHTs) in three Masaka sub region districts.
While handing over the donated materials to VHTs at the Buddu county headquarters in Masaka city, the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine urged the the beneficiaries to use the transport provided to them on their course of duty and commended the Korean Foundation for thinking about Uganda.
Dr. Atwine however, cautioned parents on the poor sanitation in the homes which has caused several sicknesses amongst people. She said many homes do not have toilet facilities, and urged leaders to encourage people on hygiene behavior.
The donated cycles and kits were distributed to VHTs in Masaka city, Masaka District and Bukomansimbi District.
Dr. Richard Kabanda, the Commissioner from the Ministry of Health, urged VHTs to start monitoring on diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, in the elderly so that they adopt hospital treatment as the only way to reduce the number of deaths from such illnesses.
Mr. Kim Biungi, the head of KOFIH in Uganda, said the central Uganda health support expansion program started in 2021 and it will last for a period of 5 years.
Dr. Buk Nam, the project manager said the project will help people in Masaka areas to improve their health.
Dr Faith Nakiyimba, the Masaka District Health Officer, applauded the Ministry of Health for its special focus on Masaka and pledged to continue mobilising VHTs to work towards disease prevention.
The event was attended by the Bukomansimbi RDC Ms. Jane Francis Kagaayi, the LC5 boss Fred Nyenje among others. VHTs led by Ms. Claudia Nandaula highlighted their challenges and commended KOFIH for providing them with transport.
