The government set 2025 as the year for operationalizing Kabale city, one of the administrative areas which were elevated to city status by virtue of a motion passed by Parliament in 2020.
Last week, Hon. Raphael Magyezi the minister of Local Government disagreed with his counterpart, the Minister of State for finance in charge of general duties Henry Ariganyira Musasizi over the proposed Kabale city.
Musasizi who is also Rubanda East Member of Parliament said that formulation of new administrative units including a city is the wastage of government resources and has no contribution to the development of this country. He said that the government led by president Museveni had decided to stop the formulation of new administrative units due to financial constraints.
However, the Local Government’s Minister Raphael Magyezi, through a phone interview told our reporter, that his ministry which is charged with the responsibility operationalizing the remaining five cities never received any information from the head of State to change the opposition of Parliament that was approved in 2020.
He said that people of Kabale should remain optimistic about the city saying that any changes should be officially communicated to people. Kabale district was among the 15 districts the cabinet approved to have a city status In May 2019 in a phased manner.
Kabale District is a district in the Western Region of Uganda. It was originally part of Kigezi District, before the districts of Rukungiri, Kanungu, Rubanda, Rukiga and Kisoro were excised to form separate districts.
