GUN VIOLENCE: Police in Kassanda on Wednesday morning May 24th 2023, registered an attempted murder case and suicide by shooting that occured at Makokoto police post Makokoto sub county in Kassanda District.
According to the Wamala region police spokesperson, APS Racheal Kawala, the deceased is No.1037 PC Kitiyo Alex, a 47-year old resident of Makokoto Trading Center, and a police officer attached to Makokota Police post in Kassanda district.
‘Preliminary facts indicate that today 24/5/2023 at about 500am at Makokota trading centre Police constable Kitiyo woke up and shot several bullets into the room of his in charge police post Inspector of police John Kakooza while not talking any thing, then he later returned to his room sat on his bed and shot him self dead.” Racheal said.
She added that the scene of crime has been visited and documented by the Police task team and relevant statements are being recorded to guide on investigation.
In May 2023, over 10 deaths have so far been reported as a result of gun violence where security officers open gun fire to their workmates, friends and bosses.
The First gun fire incident was reported on May 2nd, after a UPDF officer shot dead the former State Minister for Labour Charles Engola and later shot himself too. Popular Vlogger Isma OLexas, an Indian money lender, priavate security guards are also among of the victims of gun violence

On Tuesday May 23rd 2023, the Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth Ochola halted the operating licenses for thirty nine Private Security Companies which failed to fulfill some or all of the necessary conditions for license renewal last year(2022) as per Regulation 14(d) of the Police (Control of Private Security Organisations) Regulations 2013.
