The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among on Wednesday named members of the select committee that will carry out investigations into the operation & management of National Social Security Fund (NSSF)
The seven member committee will be chaired by Hon. Mwine Mpaka. Mbarara City South legislator, Mwine Mpaka (NRM). and other members are Hon. Fortune Rose Nantongo District Woman MP Kyotera, Hon. Micheal Kakembo, Entebbe municipality, Hon. Karim Masaba, Hon. Kankunda Amos, Hon. Charles Bakabulindi and Hon. Laula Kanushu.
The names have been revealed by the Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa on behalf of the Speaker, during his communication to the house on Wednesday afternoon.
The committee will examine the works of NSSF and the controversy revolved around the reappointment of the then Managing Director, Richard Byarugaba who had attained the age of 60 and had already served two terms. The committee is expected to report within one month.
Last week, the Speaker of Parliament directed investigations into the operations and management of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) by a select committee.
The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among reiterated the importance of protecting workers’ savings stressing that any diversion of the funds is a criminal act. She directed investigations into the operations and management of the National Social Security Fund by a select committee.
She said that for a fund belonging to workers in Uganda who depend on it in their retirement, certainty is very important and workers need to know if their money is secure.
