MASAKA: The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and the Ministry of Education on Thursday Feb 9th, released the 2022 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results.
Many schools across the country celebrated victory upon attaining best grades for their students with distinctions, apart from the 1,035 students countrywide whose results were withheld as a result of examination malpractice.
However, in greater Masaka sub region, St. Jude SSS Kyabakuza and St. Henry’s College Kitovu (SHACK) outshined all schools after obtaining the best results in the final examinations. The two schools had students with 8 in 8 aggregates.
Out of over 340,000 UCE candidates in 2022, approximately 200 students achieved this distinction. Traditional schools from Mukono, Wakiso, Kampala, Mbabara had students with 8 in 8 aggregates but in greater Masaka, SHACK and St. Jude SSS Kyabakuza were the only schools from the entire sub region with the aggregate having obtained 3 students and 2 students respectively.
The Director St. Jude SSS Kyabakuza Hon. Mary Babirye Kabanda said she was so grateful to have the two students passing with best grades given the fact they were among those sponsored by Babirye Kabanda Development Foundation.
Hon. Babirye Kabanda added that she was proud to see her school ranking among the best in the country and pledged to continue sponsoring the two students not until they complete University education. It was the first for St. Jude SSS Kyabakuza to obtain 8 in 8 aggregates and among the 19 schools with the record.
Other traditional schools in Masaka sub region like Masaka SSS, Blessed Sacrament Kimaanya, Kako SSS, St. Mary’s Mukoko, St. Kalemba Kalungu Villa Maria among others passed with flying colors and ranked Masaka as one the best districts in the country.
According to UNEB, 46,667 students passed in Division One, 76,745 passed in Division two, 88,690 passed in Division three,117,937 passed in Division Four and 15,756 students failed the examinations. A total of 1,035 results were withheld in accordance with Section 5 (2) (b) of the UNEB Act No 1 of 2021.
The UNEB Executive Director Mr. Dan Odong said Candidature increased by 16,063 (4.8%) from 333,396 in 2020 to 349,459, in 2022 reversing the decrease of 4,324 (-1.3%) that had been witnessed in the previous examination. The candidates sat from 3,703 centres. Of these, 114,181 (32.7%) were USE beneficiaries.
Female candidates performed better than males in English Language. In Chemistry, the male candidates show better performance in the higher grades but, overall, a higher percentage of females obtained at least a pass.
A total of 349,459 candidates registered for the examination from 4,185 examination centers. This is as compared to 333,395 candidates that registered for the last UCE examination of 2020, indicating an increase of 16,063 in the candidature. 50.3% of the registered candidates were males, while 49.7% were females.
